OL Reign Signs Defender Phoebe McClernon through 2023 Season
OL Reign has signed defender Phoebe McClernon to a two-year deal, with a one-year option, the club announced today. Per league and club policy, the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“We are excited to bring Phoebe to the club, I think she will be a great addition to our backline,” said head coach Laura Harvey. “She has huge potential and I am excited to work with her. She has all the tools to be an excellent player in this league.”
OL Reign acquired McClernon on December 18, 2021, in a trade with the Orlando Pride. The 24-year-old was selected 14th overall in the 2020 NWSL College Draft from the University of Virginia. In total, she made 25 appearances for Orlando between the NWSL Challenge Cup and regular season, earning 19 starts. She was named to the NWSL Team of the Month in May. The West Chester, Pennsylvania native earned one assist for Orlando in the team’s home opener against the Washington Spirit.
“I am thrilled to be continuing my career with OL Reign! In addition to Laura Harvey’s stellar reputation, it’s clear that the club as a whole is striving to make OL Reign one of the best clubs in the world and I am extremely excited to be a part of that and learn from so many people I have looked up to for so long,” said McClernon. “I can’t wait to meet all of my teammates as well as the awesome fan base. I’m so, so grateful for this opportunity and the chance to hopefully bring some trophies back to Seattle!”
