Rebecca Quinn Named to Canada’s Olympic Qualifying Roster
Reign FC midfielder Rebecca Quinn has been named to the Canadian women’s national team’s roster for the 2020 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Championship, Canada Soccer announced today. The tournament will run from January 28 to February 9 at sites around the United States.
Quinn (54 caps, 5 goals, 3 assists) made three appearances for Canada at the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France, helping them to a second-place finish in Group E before being eliminated by Sweden in the Round of 16.
The midfielder also represented Canada at the 2016 Olympic games in Rio where the nation earned the bronze medal.
Canada has been placed in Group B along with Mexico, Saint Kitts and Nevis and Jamaica. The top two teams from the group stage will reach the semifinals, with the semifinal winners qualifying for the final will also receive CONCACAF’s two bids to the 2020 games in Tokyo.
All of Canada’s group stage matches will be played at H-E-B Park in Edinburg, Texas. Canada will begin the tournament against Saint Kitts and Nevis on Wednesday, January 29, before facing Jamaica on Saturday, February 1. Both matches will kick off at 2:30 p.m. PT. The final group stage match will see Canada take on Mexico on Tuesday, February 4 at 3:30 p.m. PT.
