Reign FC Acquires Midfielder Dani Weatherholt in Trade with Orlando

Reign FC has acquired midfielder Dani Weatherholt in a trade with the Orlando Pride, the club announced today. In exchange, Orlando will receive Reign FC’s natural second-round pick in the 2021 NWSL College Draft.

Weatherholt has spent the past four years with the Pride, averaging 1,338 minutes per season. In 2019, she played 1,341 minutes in 19 appearances (16 starts).  In 2018, she made a career-high 23 appearances for the club, scoring two goals.

The 25-year-old also spent time with Australian side Melbourne Victory FC on loan for the 2018-19 W-League season, helping the club to a 7-2-3 record and a Premiership title.

Prior to her professional career, Weatherholt played her college soccer at Santa Clara University. In 2013, she appeared in all 22 contests for the Broncos, helping them to the NCAA Division 1 tournament’s Round of 16 appearance. As a senior, she received First Team All-WCC and Third Team All-West Region honors after scoring three goals and assisting on two more in 22 appearances.

“I am beyond grateful to be joining Reign FC for the upcoming 2020 season,” Weatherholt said. “Reign FC is a team I have deep respect and admiration for, with world class players and people both on and off the field. I can’t wait to get into preseason and pour everything that I have into this club.”
