Reign FC Players Shine on International Duty
Reign FC’s players away on national team duty had a strong showing during the first week of the FIFA international break. Reign FC midfielder Allie Long and forward Jodie Taylor scored for the United States and England, respectively, as four players saw time with their national teams.
Long headed in the fourth and final goal of a 4-0 win over Portugal at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Thursday, converting a cross from Carli Lloyd in the 81st minute. Long subbed on for Morgan Brian and played 29 minutes in the second half of the win. Reign forward Megan Rapinoe did not suit up for the U.S. WNT.
The United States will play Portugal again on Tuesday, September 3 at Allianz Field in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
Taylor scored the first goal for England in a 3-3 draw with Belgium. The forward converted a through ball from Georgia Stanway with her first touch to cap off a 55-yard run from midfield in the 22nd minute.
The Lionesses will travel to face Norway in Bergen on Tuesday, September 3.
Reign FC goalkeeper Casey Murphy kept a clean sheet for the United States U-23s against Norway at the Nordic Tournament in England on Wednesday. Reign forward Bethany Balcer played just over an hour for the Stars and Stripes, but did not score in a 2-0 win. Reign defender Schuyler DeBree did not appear for the U-23s in the victory.
The U-23s continue their campaign in the Nordic Tournament against host nation England on Friday, before finishing the tournament against Sweden on Monday, September 2.
Reign midfielder Celia Jiménez Delgado will face World Cup quarterfinalists France at the Stade Gabriel-Montpied in Clermont Ferrand on Saturday, August 31.
Reign FC returns to league play when it hosts the Orlando Pride on Saturday, September 7 at Cheney Stadium.
