September International Match Round Up

It was a strong break for Reign FC’s American players called in to national team duty. Midfielder Allie Long scored in a substitute appearance against Portugal on August 29, while goalkeeper Casey Murphy, defender Schuyler DeBree and forward Bethany Balcer helped the U.S. Women’s National Team U-23s win the Nordic Tournament in England.

Long’s goal came in a 4-0 win against Portugal at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on August 29. The Stars and Stripes squared off against Portugal again on Tuesday night at Allianz Field in St. Paul, winning 3-0. Long did not appear in the second match, while forward Megan Rapinoe did not suit up for either match.

Balcer and Murphy both started for the United States U-23s in a 2-0 win against Norway on August 28, as well as a 1-1 draw against Sweden on Monday to secure victory in the competition. The U23s also posted a 1-0 win against England on August 30.

Forward Jodie Taylor started both of England’s friendlies against Belgium and Norway on August 29 and September 3, respectively. Taylor scored the opening goal in a 3-3 draw against Belgium, before playing 77 minutes against Norway and subbing off in a 2-1 loss.

Defender Celia Jiménez Delgado started and played the full 90 minutes for Spain in a 2-0 loss against France on August 31.

Reign FC returns to action on Saturday, September 7 when it plays host to the Orlando Pride for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Tickets can be purchased online, or by calling the Reign FC ticket office at (855)-REIGN-FC.
