Phallon Tullis-Joyce Earns NWSL Save of Week (Again)

The National Women’s Soccer League announced today that OL Reign goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce has earned the NWSL Verizon Save of the Week for her save in the 56th minute of the match on Saturday, April 2, against Portland Thorns FC at Providence Park in Portland, Oregon. This is the second week in a row that Tullis-Joyce has earned this honor.

The National Women's Soccer League Save of the Week is a weekly award given to individual players in the National Women's Soccer League since 2016. The honor is awarded by popular social media vote to the player deemed to have made the best save over the past week.

This is the second time that Tullis-Joyce has won this award, in her three NWSL starts. The goalkeeper has played every minute in OL Reign’s Challenge Cup campaign this year. She has made ten total saves across the three games and has been an integral part of boosting OL Reign to the first-place spot in the West Division of the Challenge Cup.

In OL Reign’s match against Portland, Tullis-Joyce made two crucial saves to earn her first shutout and a very important three points for the Reign. Her 56th minute save was a testament to her excellent goalkeeping skills displayed throughout the Challenge Cup this far. Portland defender Natalia Kuikka fired a powerful shot from the top of the 18-yard box. Tullis-Joyce was prepared in the net and dove to reach the ball, deflecting it over the top of the goal and out of the danger.
