Midfielder Maddie Mercado Nominated for Assist of the Week

Seattle Reign FC midfielder Maddie Mercado has been nominated for NWSL Deloitte Assist of the Week. Mercado earned her first nomination on her first assist of the season, against the North Carolina Courage.

The match was tied 0-0 until a great team build up play from the Reign left the ball deep in the right corner of the field for Mercado to run on to. Outpacing her defender, the attacker sliced the ball low across the box, to the feet of captain Jess Fishlock. Fishlock made no mistake as she hammered the service into the back of the net to give the Reign the lead.

The match marked the 23-year-old's first regular season start and her first regular season assist. Previously, she has tallied one other assist in all competitions with the Reign, in the NWSL x Liga MX Summer Cup.

She’s nominated for Assist of the Week alongside San Diego Wave FC’s Gia Corley, Utah Royals FC’s Ally Sentnor and Houston Dash’s Delanie Sheehan.
