Key Points Ahead of the Match:

1. LAST MEETING – The Reign last took on NJ/NY Gotham FC in June of this season and battled to a 1-1 draw. Gotham took the lead just after halftime, but the Reign forced a late own goal nine minutes into stoppage time to salvage a point.

The Reign are on a hot streak, earning three wins in a row for the first time since April 2023. Most recently, Seattle took down Angel City FC in the club’s second consecutive 3-2 comeback road win.

Three of the last six regular season meetings between the Reign and Gotham FC have featured five goals. In 2023, Gotham FC won 4-1, while Seattle won the other two in 2022 (4-1) and 2021 (3-2).

2. SCOUTING GOTHAM FC – NJ/NY Gotham FC currently sits in fourth place in the NWSL standings with 11 wins and is coming off a 2-1 win over the Houston Dash. The match at Red Bull Arena was tied heading into stoppage time but just before the final whistle, Gotham forward Esther found the back of the net to secure three points for the home side.

Gotham FC currently has eight players out for the match – Sinead Farrelly (SEI – concussion), Svava Gudmunsdottir (excused absence), Sam Hiatt (foot), Maitane Lopez (hip), Kelley O’Hara (excused absence), Midge Purce (SEI – knee), Jessica Silva (illness), Abby Smith (SEI - lower leg).

“I think we're excited to get back in front of the fans at Lumen. We've had a good week of training. Obviously coming off a Friday game and then not having a game until Monday, gives us a little bit of time, which has been nice,” said Seattle Reign FC Head Coach when asked about looking forward to the match against Gotham.

3. MOMENTUM – In addition to adding several new players to the roster over the summer, the Reign are on a three-game win streak and rising in the NWSL standings. The team is focused on using that momentum to continue their success. Specifically, the team will focus on making the most of the chances they create and continuing to put up solid defensive performances.

“I think we've defensively been good. We've got to continue that. Gotham are a good team, they've got a lot of threats. When we create chances, we've got to take them, and I think that's been what we've done over the last couple of weeks, and we want that to continue moving into [the match],” said Harvey.

4. MENTALITY – In classic Reign FC fashion, the team is fully focused on themselves, looking to take care of business. Taking all of the changes of the season in stride, the team is eager to take on the challenge of climbing the NWSL standings.

" I'm excited. We obviously have a lot of momentum moving forward after these last couple of games, and I think for us, it's a huge game,” said Reign FC captain and defender Lu Barnes.

“It's going to really change our season. In the NWSL, it's always kind of how you end, not necessarily how you start, and we've had that mentality for a while, so we keep plugging away and we're really excited to play a good side and really challenge ourselves and challenge this group. I think we're up for the task. It's just been really good vibes and we're ready to go.”
