Hungarian International Zsani Kaján Signs with Reign

OL Reign has signed forward Zsani Kaján for the 2022 season with a team option for the 2023 season, the club announced today. Per league and club policy, the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Zsani has so much potential to find success in this league and we’re really excited to start working with her. She’s a hard worker and a natural goal scorer and will make an excellent addition to the club,” said head coach Laura Harvey.

Kaján was selected by OL Reign in the first round of the 2022 NWSL Draft, with the 8th overall pick. The Budapest, Hungary native is a member of the Hungarian Women’s National Team, earning her first cap with the squad at just 16 years old.

A tenacious forward, Kaján played five seasons at St. John’s University. In her impressive career with the Red Storm, she amassed almost 6,000 minutes played and scored 45 goals and notched 11 assists. In her final season with the team, she played in 23 games for the Red Storm. Kaján scored 17 goals and added six assists in her 1,725 minutes of playing time for the team. Notably, she was one of only eight players in the nation to tally 40 or more points in 2021, earned Big East Offensive Player of the Year honors for the second time, and became the third player in Saint John’s program history to be named a United Soccer Coaches All-American.

“I am incredibly happy to be a part of such an excellent team. I look forward to working together, developing, and playing with professional players in professional conditions,” said Kaján. “I will do my best to be a useful member of the team and repay the trust in the future. I have dreamed of this opportunity since I was a child. I have worked a lot for it since the beginning, but it has been worth it. I consider it a great thing to be able to represent my country as the first Hungarian player in the league and set an example for young players to dare to dream big, work hard, and can achieve anything they want no matter where they started.”
