2025 Reign FC Storylines to Watch

The 2025 NWSL season is just around the corner.

Seattle Reign FC kicked off preseason training on Monday at Starfire Sports, with hundreds of fans in attendance seeking a first glimpse at this new-look squad.

As preparations for the 2025 campaign ramp up in the coming weeks, here are four storylines to watch:

Key Additions

It’s been an active offseason for the Reign, with five new players added to the roster thus far. Headlining this new group is all-time NWSL leading scorer Lynn Biyendolo. With four league championships and three Shields under her belt, the former NWSL MVP and Golden Boot winner brings a proven pedigree to the squad.

In addition to Biyendolo, the Reign acquired two more players with NWSL experience: veteran goalkeeper Cassie Miller and former Angel City FC defender Madison Curry. Rounding out the group is a pair of exciting rookies in UNC forward Maddie Dahlien and Rutgers defender Emily Mason.

This also marks the first preseason for all five of last year’s midseason signings: Jordyn Bugg, Ana-Maria Crnogorčević, Hanna Glas, Ainsley McCammon and Nérilia Mondésir. Having a full preseason to train together and build a winning culture will help this revamped roster gel ahead of the home opener on March 15.

Balanced Roster

The 2025 Reign FC squad features a mix of veteran leaders, rising stars, and established international talent. With an average age of 26.2 years old, the Reign will have a balanced roster capable of competing for multiple trophies. 12 of the 25 players under contract are under the age of 25, including three teenagers, with emerging talents like Bugg, McCammon and Emeri Adames poised for breakout seasons.

In order to create an environment where young players with high upside can reach their potential, the Reign will need to rely on the culture created by the squad’s veterans. Four players on the roster have been in NWSL for 8+ years, with Lu Barnes and Jess Fishlock leading the way in their 13th seasons.

First Glimpse

As part of their preseason preparations, the Reign will venture south to participate in the Coachella Valley Invitational for the first time. The squad will have the opportunity to deploy different tactical schemes and formations against fellow NWSL clubs in a competitive environment. It will also provide the first opportunity for fans to watch this new-look Reign side take the pitch ahead of the 2025 season.

Bringing the world’s game to Seattle

Reign FC’s preseason roster features stars from all over the world, including Canada, Haiti, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland and Wales. The roster boasts two Olympic gold medalists – Jordyn Huitema and Biyendolo – as well as the all-time leading goal-scorers for Switzerland (Crnogorčević), South Korea (Ji So-yun) and Wales (Fishlock).
