OL Reign Signs Midfielder Marley Canales Through 2023 Season

OL Reign has signed midfielder Marley Canales through the 2023 NWSL season, the club announced today. Per league and club policy, the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“I would like to thank Nick Perera and Laura Harvey for this opportunity. My first season with the Reign was an unforgettable year of growth and development,” said Canales. “I learned so much from our coaching staff and the veterans, and I’m thrilled to be back once again!”

Making her professional debut last season, Canales appeared in four regular season games, starting one. The 25-year-old finished the 2022 season with one shot, two duels won and 12 successful passes in 80 minutes played. Additionally, the San Diego native helped the Reign win The Women’s Cup after starting in the semifinal and appearing in the final.

OL Reign originally selected the midfielder out of UCLA in the 2022 NWSL Draft as the 47th overall pick.

“Marley adapted really well to the speed of this league in her first year,” said head coach Laura Harvey. “She stepped up when the team needed her and was always ready to embrace new challenges. We’re excited to have her with us.”
