International Recap: Five OL Reign Players Win to Close Out International Window

United States vs. Paraguay

The No. 1 ranked United States took on the No. 50 ranked Paraguay in the second match of a two game friendly series and came away with an 8-0 win. OL Reign midfielder Rose Lavelle started the match at TQL Stadium in her hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio and played 70 minutes earning one goal and three assists.

It was Lavelle who opened the scoring in the fourth minute for the United States. Casey Kreuger floated a ball into the box and Lavelle got her head on the end of it to score in front of her hometown crowd.

The United States did not wait long before scoring again. In the sixth minute, Lavelle played a ball to Sophia Smith at the top of the box. Smith took a touch inside with her right foot before finding the back of the net with her left to score her first international goal.

In the eighth minute, the U.S. added another goal. This time, it was Alex Morgan. Lavelle earned another assist as she played a ball from just outside the 18-yard box to the back post, where Morgan was making a run. Morgan nodded the ball down into the corner of the net to put the U.S. up 3-0.

Morgan scored her second of the night in the 14th minute. While the ball was loose in the box, Paraguay struggled to clear the danger, so Morgan stepped and volleyed a half-cleared ball into the goal.

Just one minute later, the United States scored their fifth goal of the match. Catarina Macario, who plays for Olympique Lyonnais, got on the scoreboard. Lavelle grabbed another assist, as she played the ball to Macario, who was overlapping her at the top of the box. Macario finished a one touch shot across goal. The 5-0 score line held until halftime.

After the break, Morgan found the back of the net first, in the 53rd minute. Smith crossed a ball into the top of the six-yard box and Morgan one touched it into goal. Lavelle was subbed out in the 70th minute, after scoring one goal and notching three assists.

Carli Lloyd scored next, in the 78th minute to make it 7-0. After a save, the ball was bouncing around near the goal line and fell to the feet of Lloyd. Lloyd calmly passed the ball into the back of the net from close range.

The final goal for the U.S. was scored by Macario in the 82nd minute. Macario lined up to half-volley a shot from the top of the 18-yard box and rocketed the ball into the goal.

Wales vs. Estonia
