International Recap: Brazil Beats Argentina 4-1
Brazil vs. Argentina
The No. 7 ranked Brazil took on No. 35 ranked Argentina for the second of two friendly matches in Brazil during the September FIFA international window. OL Reign midfielder Angelina started the match and played 70 minutes. Brazil came away with a 4-1 win, increasing their margin of victory by one goal.
From kickoff at Almeidão Stadium, in João Pessoa, Brazil dominated the match and came out on the front foot offensively. It wasn’t long before the Brazilian side found chances on goal. Duda and Marta both had good chances, but Argentina’s defense and goalkeeper kept the game scoreless.
Brazil found a breakthrough goal in the 19th minute of the match when Nycole collected the ball on a corner kick and put a cross into the box. Kerolin was there to touch the ball into the back into the bottom left corner of the goal and put Brazil on the board.
A second goal came for Brazil in the 37th minute of the match, when Marta won a freekick when she was fouled by Mariana Larroquette, who in turn received a yellow card. Marta took the freekick just outside the 18-yard box. The ball hit the crossbar before bouncing into the back of the net and doubling Brazil’s lead. The rest of the first half went scoreless.
The second half got off to an intense start. Brazil scored just three minutes into the half, in the 48th minute of the match. Yasmim crossed a ball into Debinha, who headed the ball past the goalkeeper into the bottom left corner of the goal.
Just three minutes later, Argentina scored a goal of their own. Larroquette dispossessed a Brazilian player before dribbling into the box and finding the bottom right corner of the goal. Unhappy with the goal, Brazil pressed on.
One minute later, Brazil responded with another goal. Marta played a great ball to Yasmim on the on the left. Yasmim took a shot across the box and found the bottom right corner to score Brazil’s fourth and final goal of the match giving Brazil the 4-1 win.
The international break is over for Brazil. The team went 2-0-0 against Argentina. Angelina is headed back to Tacoma to rejoin OL Reign.
