OL Reign Partners with Bloodworks Northwest for Blood Drive

To help support the South Sound during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, OL Reign has partnered with Bloodworks Northwest to host an “OL Reign Day” Pop-Up Donor Center experience at Cheney Stadium on Saturday, May 9 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m..

As part of the project, a second Pop-Up Donor Center will be stationed at Canterwood Golf & Country Club. Metro Parks Tacoma will provide support to help run both Pop-Up centers from May 4 to May 16.

"One of the many ways the South Sound community has been impacted by the COVID-19 crisis is the risk to the supply of blood to Tacoma area hospitals," said Bill Predmore, CEO of OL Reign. "Bloodworks Northwest is doing tremendous work to address this challenge. We are proud to support Bloodworks Northwest on this important initiative and encourage all supporters of OL Reign to donate if they are able to do so.”

The use of large venues like Cheney Stadium allows Bloodworks Northwest to continue to collect blood while still observing social distancing, making the experience safe for both donors and staff. The event also allows Cheney Stadium to serve an important communal function to help save lives in a time when it is unable to host sporting events.

Due to the need for social distancing and the limited number of donation timeslots, donors must make an appointment through Bloodworks Northwest’s website. Blood will be used to help save the lives of cancer patients, trauma victims, premature babies, or to treat severely ill COVID-19 patients, among others. As hospitals in the area consider resuming elective surgeries, there is a critical need for a safe and stable blood supply.

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with the South Sound sports community to ensure the local blood supply is ready to respond to the increased need for blood as hospitals prepare to resume elective surgeries,” said Bloodworks Northwest President & CEO Curt Bailey. “The health of our community depends on donors making blood donation a regular habit. Creating this opportunity for people to donate blood at Cheney Stadium and Canterwood Golf & Country Club during this crucial time will help keep our community safe.”

Donors are urged to make a one-hour appointment today to help save a life. In accordance to current social distancing regulations, only scheduled appointments are allowed and walk-ins, guests and people under the age of 16 are not permitted onsite. On the day of their donation, donors are encouraged to wear OL Reign gear and to help spread the word by using #SouthSoundProud on social media.

7 Seas Brewing, Tim’s Cascade Snacks, Pepsi and See’s Candies will be supporting the effort by providing refreshments and perks for all donors at the South Sound Pop-Up Donor Centers.
