Michelle Betos Re-Signs With Reign FC for 2020 Season

Reign FC announced today that it has re-signed keeper Michelle Betos for the 2020 season in an agreement that includes a club option for the 2021 season. Per league and club rules, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Being back with Reign FC for 2020 is an incredible feeling,” Betos said. “It has always been such an honor to represent this club, and I believe this is a special time for us. The fight and culture of this group was undeniable last year. I’m so excited to build on that foundation and achieve great things with this team. I can’t wait to get started.”

Betos was the 2016 Goalkeeper of the Year while playing for the Portland Thorns and has over 50 NWSL appearances in six seasons in the league.

Betos made four appearances for Reign FC in 2019, before being sidelined for the remainder of the season with a torn Achilles tendon that she suffered in a win against Sky Blue FC on May 18. In her four appearances last season, Betos made 14 saves and had a 0.75 goals against average in 359 minutes of play.

Now, Betos says she feels ready both physically and mentally for the start of 2020 with Reign FC.

“I’m feeling really good,” Betos said. “Luckily, I don’t have much experience with big injuries, but from what I can tell, I think I have a lot to be grateful for. Shortly after the initial shock of it all, I made a decision that both on and off the field I would be better for this. I’ve worked towards that every day and believe that I am, and will, reap the rewards of that. Although I’d never wish for it, it’s also been a special situation to be in this with teammates I love and respect so much: Jess (Fishlock), Jassy (Spencer), and Taylor (Smith). We all have our sights set on 2020. Celebrating our wins with them, and the rest of the group, this year has been my biggest driving force. I’m so excited to live out those moments.”
