Reign FC Waive Goalkeeper Sammy Jo Prudhomme

Reign FC announced today that the club has waived goalkeeper Sammy Jo Prudhomme. The 26-year-old was acquired from the Washington Spirit last July in exchange for midfielder Elise Kellond-Knight. Prudhomme served as Casey Murphy’s backup for eight matches, but never made an appearance for the club.

Prior to joining Reign FC Sammy Jo played for the Boston Breakers, who drafted her out of USC in 2017 with the 31st overall pick. Sammy Jo was then acquired by the Houston Dash in the 2018 Dispersal Draft. After being waived by Houston prior to the start of the 2019 NWSL season, Sammy Jo joined the Washington Spirit as a non-roster invitee and was later signed to the club.

In conjunction with her departure from Reign FC, Prudhomme announced her intention to retire from professional soccer.

“Sammy Jo solved a massive challenge for us last season given all our injuries,” said Reign FC CEO Bill Predmore. “She was a great professional, worked hard, and was a solid member of the squad. We are sad to see her leave the game and wish her all the best in the future.”
