U.S. WNT Wins Concacaf Olympic Qualifying Championship
The U.S. Women’s National Team won the Concacaf Olympic Qualifying Championship on Sunday, February 9, defeating Canada at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. Megan Rapinoe scored the final goal in a 3-0 win to help the U.S. win the tournament.
Canada and the U.S. had already claimed Concacaf’s two berths to the 2020 Olympic Games in Japan by winning their semifinal matches on Friday, February 7.
The U.S. qualified by defeating Mexico at the Concacaf Women’s Olympic Qualifying Championship on Friday. Rapinoe assisted on both of the United States’ goals in the first half, including Rose Lavelle’s game-winner in the fifth minute of play. The U.S. never looked back, taking down El Tri 4-0 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
Canada claimed Concacaf’s other Olympic berth with a 1-0 win over Costa Rica. Reign FC midfielder Rebecca Quinn did not play in the match.
The draw for the tournament will take place on April 20 at NHK Hall in Tokyo. The 12-team tournament will run from July 22 to August 7.
