Balcer Called in to USWNT October Camp

U.S. Women’s National Team coach Vlatko Andonovski has called OL Reign forward Bethany Balcer into the team’s October camp, the U.S. Soccer Federation announced today. The camp will mark the U.S. Women’s National Team’s first activity in seven months.

Balcer received her first international call up last August, when she was called in to the U.S. U23s and helped them win the Nordic Tournament. Last December, she received a call up from Andonovski for the senior national team’s December camp.

The reigning Rookie of the Year made history last season, becoming the first player from an NAIA school to sign an NWSL contract. Balcer has scored three goals in seven appearances for OL Reign in 2020.

The camp will be held in Commerce City, Colorado. The federation will operate under strict protocols due to COVID-19, including testing before traveling to camp and delaying the start of full team training until all tests are confirmed negative.

“Our top priority at all times is the health and safety of our players and staff,” said U.S. Soccer Chief Medical Officer George Chiampas. “We’ve worked hard to make sure our players and staff are aware of all our strategies and protocols so they will feel safe in the environment. We all have our responsibilities individually to execute the proper maintenance of the environment, but collectively as a team, we all need to work together to make sure we can have the safest and most productive camp in October, as well as for events moving forward.”

The camp will be held from October 18-28, leaving Balcer available for selection in OL Reign’s two remaining NWSL Fall Series matches.
