OL Plays to Draw in 100th League Olympico

Olympique Lyonnais (1-1-4, 7 points, 14th) played rivals Olympique Marseille (2-1-3, 9 points, 10th) to a 1-1 draw in the first Olympico of the season on Sunday.

OM’s Dimitri Payet scored for his side in the 16th minute, finishing a low ball to the right post. Three minutes later, Payet was sent off for serious foul play after a studs-up challenge on Léo Dubois.

Lyon equalized from the penalty spot in the 28th minute. After Melvin Bard was fouled in the penalty area, Houssem Aouar smashed a shot past OM keeper Steve Mandanda.

OL nearly took the lead in the 43rd minute when Tino Kadewere knocked in a deflection off the crossbar, but the goal was disallowed for offside after consultation with the Video Assistant Referee.

From there, Lyon had a number of promising chances, but couldn’t convert any for the game-winner as they took a point at home.

OL Féminin Beat Fleury 91 3-0

Olympique Lyonnais Féminin (4-0-0, 12 points, 1st) beat Fleury 91 (2-1-1, 7 points, 4th) on the road Friday. The club scored three goals in the final 22 minutes for a decisive 3-0 victory.

Lyon notched their first goal on a corner kick in the 68th minute. Wendie Renard leapt up in the penalty area and directed the ball to the left post with her head, before Canadian international Kadeisha Buchanan headed home the goal.

Renard grabbed a goal of her own 11 minutes later, heading home another corner kick from Eugenie Le Sommer across the face of goal.

Nikita Parris added the third in the 85th minute, sprinting on to a long ball from Janice Cayman and toe-poking it past charging Fleury keeper Laëtitia Philippe as the club took all three points to stay at the top of the table.
