Taylor’s England Clinch Group D in Win Over Utsugi’s Japan

While neither Reign FC player saw time in the match, Jodie Taylor’s England locked up the top spot in Group D with a 2-0 win over Rumi Utsugi’s Japan. Japan finished second thanks to a draw between Scotland and Argentina.

Ellen White recorded a brace for the Lionesses, scoring in the 14th and 84th minutes as England avenged its 2015 semifinal loss to Japan.

England will play the third place team from Group B, E or F at the Stade du Hainaut in Valenciennes at 8:30 a.m. PT on Sunday, June 23. The Lionesses have reached the knockout rounds for their fourth consecutive World Cup.

Japan will play the winner of Group E (either Canada or the Netherlands) at the Roazhon Park in Rennes on Tuesday, June 25 at 12:00 p.m. PT. Japan will make its fourth appearance in the World Cup knockout rounds.
