Theresa Nielsen Returns to Europe After Two Seasons with Reign FC

Defender Theresa Nielsen will not return to Reign FC in 2020, the club announced today. Nielsen, who was out of contract following the 2019 season, has joined Brøndby IF in her native Denmark, for whom she played from 2009-17.

“Theresa was a leader on and off the pitch during her two seasons with Reign FC,” said Reign FC owner Bill Predmore. “We are appreciative of all she contributed but understand and are supportive of her desire to return home to play.”

Nielsen played 1,737 minutes for Reign FC in 2019, recording two assists and helping the club reach the playoffs for the second straight season. The defender made 43 total appearances for Reign FC and was a two-time NWSL Team of the Month selection.

The 33-year-old joined Reign FC ahead of the 2018 season from Norwegian side Vålarenga. Prior to that, she played for Brøndby, where she won four Elitedivisionen titles and five Danish Women’s Cups.
