Megan Rapinoe Wins 2019 Ballon D’Or
Megan Rapinoe was honored as the best women’s player in the world on Monday, Dec 2 by France Football, earning the 2019 Ballon D’Or Fémenin at a ceremony held in Paris. The award continues a trophy-laden year for the forward, who has drawn a host of accolades for her performances in 2019.
Rapinoe was the centerpiece of a record-breaking campaign for the U.S. Women’s National Team at the World Cup, earning the Golden Boot and Golden Ball as the United States won its second title in a row and fourth title overall.
The forward was also honored as the 2019 Best FIFA Women’s Player in September and is a finalist for the U.S. Women’s National Team Player of the Year Award.
Rapinoe is the second-ever woman to win the award after Norway’s Ada Hegerberg won the inaugural title in 2018.
The 34-year-old was one of four Americans named to the 20-player shortlist, alongside U.S. Women’s National Team teammates Alex Morgan, Rose Lavelle and Tobin Heath.
