World Cup Recap: Scoreless Draw Against Jamaica Ends Brazil’s World Cup Campaign
In Brazil’s final match of their 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign, the team drew 0-0 against Jamaica after an intense end-to-end match. OL Reign midfielder Angelina was available on the bench for Brazil but did not make an appearance in the match.
Brazil immediately put the pressure on Jamaica in the first half, forcing Jamaica to defend shots from Marta in the fifth and 11th minute. Brazil continued to have the better chances through the first half, with Tamires and Ary Borges both getting shots off before the half hour mark.
36 minutes in, Jamaica earned one of their first real chances in the match, but Brazil’s backline was able to clear the danger. At the half, the game was scoreless, despite Brazil’s eight shots.
Both teams made a change at halftime and Brazil continued to battle for the three points they needed to advance out of the group stage of the tournament. In the 54th minute, a fumble of the ball from Jamaica’s goalkeeper nearly gifted Brazil the opening goal of the match, but she was able to recover the keep the game level at zeroes.
In the 82nd minute, Jamaica had a chance to find the opening goal of the match, but Khadija Shaw, who got on the end of a through ball, sent her shot just over the crossbar, keeping Brazil’s hope to find a game-winning goal alive.
Brazil found three more chances on goal before the end of the game, but in the end were unable to find the back of the net. With the 0-0 draw, Brazil finished third in Group F, ending their 2023 World Cup campaign.
