Two OL Reign Players Named to Canada Roster for 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup

Two OL Reign players have been named to the Canadian National Team’s 23-player roster for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup – midfielder Quinn and forward Jordyn Huitema. Both players have at least one goal for OL Reign this year.

The No. 7 ranked Canadian National Team will play one friendly match against England behind closed doors on July 14 before beginning the group stage of the World Cup. In the group stage, Canada will face Nigeria on Thursday, July 20 at 7:30 p.m. PT in Melbourne, the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday, July 26 at 5:00 a.m. PT in Perth and co-hosts Australia on Monday, July 31 at 3:00 a.m. PT in Melbourne.

Midfielder Quinn has amassed 89 caps for the Canadian National Team, making 54 starts. In their long national team career, they have scored five goals and added four assists for Canada. They made their full senior national team debut at 18 years old and has since accumulated quite the list of accolades.

Individually, they were named to the Best XI at the CONCACAF Women’s Championship in 2018 and on a team level, they have won a silver medal at the 2016 CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying Championship, finished first at the 2016 Algarve Women’s Cup, won an Olympic bronze medal at the Rio 2016 Women's Olympic Football Tournament, won a silver medal with Canada at the 2018 Concacaf Women’s Championship, won a silver medal at the 2020 Concacaf Women’s Olympic Qualifying Championship, won an Olympic gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Women’s Olympic Football Tournament in 2021 and won a silver medal at the 2022 Concacaf Women’s Championship.

Forward Jordyn Huitema has 64 caps for Canada, including 23 starts. Heading into her second World Cup, the 22-year-old has notched 16 goals and added six assists for national team since her debut in 2017. She recorded her first senior national team goal the same year.

The forward has an impressive resume of hardware won with Canada, including a silver medal at the 2018 Concacaf Women’s Championship, a silver medal at the 2020 Concacaf Women’s Olympic Qualifying Championship, a silver medal at the 2022 Concacaf Women’s Championship and a gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Women’s Olympic Football Tournament in 2021.
