Shirley Cruz Named to Costa Rica WNT for October FIFA Window
OL Reign midfielder Shirley Cruz has been called up to the Costa Rica Women’s National Team for the October FIFA international window for a pair of friendly matches.
The No. 36 ranked Costa Rica Women’s National Team play will play two matches during the FIFA international match window, both against the No. 51 ranked Jamaica. The first match is on Thursday, October 21 at 2:00 p.m. PT at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and the second is on Sunday, October 24 at 2:00 p.m. PT, also to be played at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Costa Rica last met Jamaica during World Cup qualifying in October 2018. Jamaica won the game by one goal, scored in the 46th minute of the match. Prior to that, the teams met in July 2018 and Costa Rica came away with a 2-1 win.
Cruz has been a part of the Costa Rica senior national team since 2002. Since then, she has made 94 appearances and scored 30 goals for the team. Most recently, she played with Costa Rica during the September FIFA window, when the team played two games against Panama. The first match was a 2-1 loss, but Cruz earned an assist. The second game was a 3-2 win and Cruz played all 90 minutes.
