Seattle Reign FC Legend: Joy Hollingsworth – Seattle City Councilmember

The Legends Campaign, a partnership between Seattle Reign FC and Starbucks, honors women for their extraordinary contributions to our community in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Prior to Seattle Reign FC’s match on July 28, the club recognized Joy Hollingsworth, Seattle City Councilmember.

Councilmember Hollingsworth represents Seattle’s District 3 – the area she’s lived her entire life. The product of a long line of educators and civil rights leaders, Joy is committed to finding community-based solutions to the issues residents of the Central District care about most.

A lifelong athlete, Councilmember Hollingsworth played basketball at Seattle Preparatory School, going on to play for the University of Arizona, before playing professionally on the international stage. She then returned to Seattle to earn a master's degree in education from the University of Washington and spent three seasons at Seattle University as an Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach.

As a leader in the community, Councilmember Hollingsworth is focused on repairing existing public infrastructure and creating new infrastructure, supporting community centers, programs, and activities that strongly impact youth and families' lives and exploring how we can combat climate change as a city.

In November of 2023, Hollingsworth was elected to Seattle City Council representing District 3. As a small business owner, non-profit leader and community connector, Councilmember Hollingsworth prides herself on outcomes by focusing on the fundamentals and bold basics for our neighborhoods while serving in her legislative role.
