Seattle Reign FC Forward Tziarra King Wins NWSL Goal of the Week
Seattle Reign FC forward Tziarra King has won NWSL Goal of the Week for Week 5 of the NWSL regular season. In the 79th minute of the Reign’s match against the Chicago Red Stars, King notched her first goal of the 2024 NWSL season.
NWSL Goal of the Week, an award originally established in 2016, returns for the 2024 season. The honor is awarded by popular social media vote to the player deemed to have scored the best goal over the last week of play.
The 25-year-old came onto the field as a substitute for the Reign in the 77th minute and made an immediate impact in the match, scoring just two minutes later.
The strike itself was show-stopping. Seattle midfielder Jess Fishlock set her up, playing a pass directly to King’s feet. The forward took one touch to set up her shot before firing the ball toward goal with accuracy and power, ultimately beating Alyssa Naeher in goal as the ball found its home in the upper right corner of the net.
King becomes the fifth player in Reign FC history to win NWSL Goal of the Week an the second this season. Midfielder Jess Fishlock was selected twice and forwards Bethany Balcer and Megan Rapinoe each won the award once, in addition to midfielder Ji So-Yun earning her first NWSL Goal of the Week honor earlier this season.
