Phallon Tullis-Joyce Earns NWSL Save of the Week AGAIN
The National Women’s Soccer League announced today that OL Reign goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce has earned the NWSL Verizon Save of the Week for her save in the penalty kick shootout in OL Reign’s Challenge Cup semifinal match against the Washington Spirit on Wednesday, May 4 at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. This is the fourth time Tullis-Joyce has earned this honor.
The National Women's Soccer League Save of the Week is a weekly award given to individual players in the National Women's Soccer League since 2016. The honor is awarded by popular social media vote to the player deemed to have made the best save over the past week.
Tullis-Joyce has earned all four NWSL Save of the Week honors in her career, this year. She played every minute of OL Reign’s 2022 Challenge Cup campaign and made 24 saves throughout, tied for the first place across the league with Aubrey Kingsbury and DiDi Haračić. In league play, the goalkeeper has played every minute of OL Reign’s two games and put up an impressive 13 saves – the best of any goalkeeper in the league.
In OL Reign’s match against the Washington on May 4, Tullis-Joyce made five total saves throughout the game. She made the first save of the penalty kick shootout, expertly reading the penalty kick the entire way. As soon as the ball was struck, Tullis-Joyce dove at full stretch, saving the mid-height shot from going into the net.
