On This Day in Reign History: Seattle Announced as Founding NWSL Club

On November 21, 2012, Seattle was officially announced as a founding member of the National Women’s Soccer League, to begin play in 2013. With a clear mission to become one of the best women's soccer clubs in the world, the club began its journey and garnered the support of loyal Seattle soccer fans.  

One of eight teams to make the league in its inaugural season, Seattle was joined by teams in Portland, Kansas City, Chicago, Boston, Washington D.C., Western New York and New Jersey. 

Though the name, brand identity, stadium and more would be announced at a later date, the official announcement of the team planted the seeds for what the club has become today.
