OL Reign midfielder Angelina has been named to the Brazil Women’s National Team for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Angelina, originally named to the roster as an alternate, will replace Nycole Raysla, who sustained an injury in training on Tuesday.
For the group stage of the World Cup, Brazil will play in Group F. Their three group stage matches will be played in Australia. Brazil is set to open their tournament against No. 52 ranked Panama on Saturday, July 24 at 4:00 a.m. PT, before facing off with No. 5 ranked France and ending their group stage play against No. 43 ranked Jamaica on Wednesday, August 2.
Midfielder Angelina debuted for the full national team during the 2020 Olympics Games in Tokyo. She has amassed 20 caps for Brazil and scored one goal. The midfielder made three appearances during the Olympic Games in 2021, earning 183 minutes of playing time and registering three shots. In September 2021, Angelina was called up for Brazil once again, this time for a series of two friendly matches against Argentina.
In her first appearance after the Olympics, Angelina scored her first career goal for Brazil in the 59th minute of Brazil’s September 17th match against Argentina to put Brazil up 3-0 in the match. Before the year was out, Angelina was called into one more friendly against Australia and closed out 2021 with three more appearances in the Torneio Internacional Feminino de Seleções.
In 2022, Angelina appeared in four friendly matches for Brazil, as well as two Turnoi de France matches and five Copa América Femenina matches for a total of 721 minutes, before sustaining her Season-Ending Injury with Brazil.
Prior to her senior national team debut, the midfielder served as the captain of the Brazil U20 women’s national team, a team which has won every South American U20 championship since the tournament was founded in 2004. She was also named to the IFFHS Conmebol Youth Women Team of the Year for 2020.
