OL Reign Exercises Option on Midfielder Jess Fishlock’s Contract

OL Reign today announced that it has exercised the 2024 option on midfielder Jess Fishlock’s contract, bringing back the Reign original for a 12th year with the club.

“We still have work to do this season, but I’m happy to share that I’m coming back for another year,” said Fishlock. “This city and our fans have shown so much love over the years throughout my career, so it’s only right to keep the party going!”

Fishlock has played in 176 of the club’s 222 regular season games since 2013, joining Reign original Lauren Barnes as one of two players in league history to play at least 175 regular season games for the same club. At 14,992 regular-season minutes played, the veteran midfielder is eight minutes shy of also becoming the second player in league history to reach 15,000 regular-season minutes played for one club, a feat that would also be shared with Barnes.

Throughout 2023, Fishlock has made 12 starts in 13 regular season appearances, recording three goals and 25 shots. In just the second game of the season, Fishlock became the first player to score in all 10 NWSL regular seasons.

The 2021 NWSL Most Valuable Player is one of five players in league history to record 41+ goals and 24+ assists in regular season play. Fishlock’s 41 goals and 24 assists are both the second most in club history and are tied for 10th and seventh in league history, respectively.

The 11-year veteran also has the second-most combined Best XI and Second XI selections in league history, earning Best XI honors five times and Second XI honors two times. In addition to her individual awards, Fishlock has helped the club earn three NWSL Shields (2014, 2015 and 2022), tied for the most in league history.

“From day one, Jess has been the epitome of a true professional, leader and competitor for our club,” said head coach Laura Harvey. “Her voice in the locker room, presence on the field and overall energy will continue to push us to perform at the highest level through 2024.” 

At the international level, Fishlock is the most capped player in Wales history and became the first player to earn 100 caps for the country in 2017. She has also been named the Welsh Footballer of the Year five times (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2018).
