OL Reign Down Under: Quinn
OL Reign midfielder Quinn and Canada are set to begin their 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign tonight at 7:30 p.m. PT against Nigeria. After joining OL Reign in 2019, Quinn has been a key player in the team’s midfield and is now called up to the Canada Women’s National Team for their second World Cup.
LEAGUE PLAY
Quinn signed with OL Reign in July 2019 and debuted for the team on August 10 against the Utah Royals. They played six total games, starting in four, and recorded six tackles and four interceptions. In 2021, they continued to appear regular for OL Reign, earning eight starts in 12 appearances. They took three shots, won 10 tackles and recorded six interceptions.
In 2022, the midfielder started in 14 of 17 games played. They recorded their first-ever assist against the Orlando Pride in the final match of the regular season. They finished the season with four shots, 10 tackles won and eight interceptions.
This season, Quinn has appeared eight times in the regular season, occupying the midfield for OL Reign. They scored their first ever goal in the Reign’s 4-1 win over Angel City FC in May. They also added one assist and two key passes for the Reign, while maintaining a passing accuracy of over 80%.
During the 2023 UKG NWSL Challenge Cup, the Toronto native made two appearances, starting in both matches. They have made two interceptions, completed 68 passes and added two key passes and one cross.
INTERNATIONAL
Midfielder Quinn has 89 caps for Canada since making their debut in 2014. They have earned 54 starts, scored five goals and tallied four assists for the Canadian National Team. The is Quinn’s second World Cup.
At 18 years old, Quinn made their debut for Canada during the 2014 Cyprus Cup. They went on to play 246 minutes for Canada that year, appearing in five games and earning two starts. The next year, the midfielder earned seven caps.
2016 featured Quinn’s first goal and assist for Canada. In 13 appearances, they scored three goals and earned one assist. All three goals came during Canada’s 10–0 win in the group stage of the 2016 CONCACAF Women's Olympic Qualifying Championship. They finished first with Canada at the 2016 Algarve Women’s Cup and won an Olympic bronze medal with Canada at the Rio 2016 Women's Olympic Football Tournament.
In 2017, Quinn earned eight caps for Canada and served up one assist. The next year, they continued to accumulate caps, adding 11 more to their resume, in addition to another two goals and an assist. They were named to the Best XI at the CONCACAF Women’s Championship and won a silver medal with Canada at the 2018 Concacaf Women’s Championship.
Quinn made 10 appearances and four starts in 2019 and was a part of their first World Cup roster during Canada’s 2019 campaign. In 2020, they made five appearances and three, and won a silver medal at the 2020 Concacaf Women’s Olympic Qualifying Championship.
They were also an integral part of the Canada’s gold-medal winning squad during the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, becoming the first out, transgender, and non-binary gold medalist in Olympic history. Over the course of the year, they made 14 appearances and earned one assist.
In 2022, Quinn made 15 appearances for Canada, holding down the middle of the field as the team won a silver medal at the 2022 Concacaf Women’s Championship. This year, they have made one appearance for Canada.
