Midfielder Olivia Athens Nominated for NWSL Goal of the Week

Seattle Reign FC midfielder Olivia Athens has been nominated for NWSL Goal of the Week for her 22nd minute strike against the Houston Dash on Friday, October 18 at Lumen Field. In the 2-1 win, Athens scored the opening goal of the match, setting the stage for a home victory.

Nominated alongside San Diego’s Delphine Cascarino, Utah’s Claudia Zornoza and Angel City’s Sydney Leroux, Athens scored her goal from a corner kick halfway through the first half. Forward Emeri Adames served a ball into the box, floating it in near the six-yard box. The ball was deflected out, but only as far as the top of the 18, where Athens was waiting to volley it into the back of the net with her first touch.

The goal marks the second of the 26-year-old’s career in regular season play and first since the 2022 season.
