Match Preview: Seattle Reign FC Faces Off with UW Women’s Soccer

Seattle Reign FC are set to face off in a friendly match against the University of Washington Women’s soccer team tonight, Wednesday, March 6 at Husky Soccer Stadium in Seattle. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. PT and tickets are available now! This will be Reign FC’s last open-to-the-public match before the NWSL regular season kicks off from Lumen Field on Sunday, March 17 at 3:00 p.m. PT against the Washington Spirit. 

TICKETS: Tickets to this preseason friendly are only $10 and $5 from every purchase supports the UW Women’s soccer program. If any tickets remain on gameday, fans may also purchase tickets in-person at the ticket booth outside Husky Soccer Stadium and Husky Ballpark.  

PARKING: Parking for the event is available for fans at Lot E18, accessible off of Montlake Boulevard adjacent to Husky Soccer Stadium. Daily parking at Lot E18 may be purchased for $7.55 per day through the PaybyPhone App. 

FOLLOW ALONG: If you can’t make it to the match in person, follow along on Reign FC’s social media accounts @reignfc on all platforms. There will not be any livestream or live stats available for the match. 

STORYLINES: Though this is a preseason friendly between the teams, this exciting match features the return of several former Huskies to Husky Soccer Stadium. Reign FC players Shae Holmes, Olivia Van der Jagt and McKenzie Weinert, along with draftee Makena Carr were all standout players for the Huskies in college. 

Shae Holmes: Holmes played in 44 career games at the University of Washington, starting in 32 of those games. She was an integral part of the squad, adding two goals and seven assists. In her final season with the team, she was selected to the All-Pac-12 Second Team and earned CSC Academic All-District Honors. She helped the team to five clean sheets during the season and scored a game winning goal off a free kick. 

Olivia Van der Jagt: In her time with the Huskies, Van der Jagt set a record for most games played in a career. She also scored 12 goals and notched nine assists during her time with Washington. In her final season with the team, she started and played in 18 matches, contributing a full 90 minutes 14 times throughout the season. The midfielder added three goals and two assists and was named to the All-Pac-12 Third Team and Scholar All-Region Second Team in 2021. 

McKenzie Weinert: The recently signed Reign FC forward spent two years at the University of Washington, recording eight goals, five assists and 74 shots in 37 appearances for the Huskies. With UW, Weinert earned CSC Academic All-District Honors and was named to Honorable Mention Team of the Week by TopDrawerSoccer after UW earned its first Apple Cup win at Washington State since 1996. 

Makena Carr: A forward at the University of Washington, she made 39 total appearances, including 10 starts. In her time with the Huskies, she registered two goals and two assists, including a game winner against Cal. In her career, she earned 26 shots, directing 12 on goal.  

In addition, Seattle Reign General Manager Lesle Gallimore was a longtime coach for the University of Washington Women’s soccer program. She spent 26 seasons with the team as the second head coach in program history. From 1994-2019, she led the team to 15 NCAA Tournament appearances, broke numerous records and earned the Pac-12 Coach of the Year award twice, in 2000 and 2019, becoming one of only five Pac-12 coaches ever to do so.
