Key Points Ahead of the Match:
1. LAST MEETING – Seattle Reign FC and the Orlando Pride last met in September 2023. The Reign hosted the Pride in front of over 10,000 and earned a 1-0 win. Orlando’s goalkeeper Anna Morehouse received a third minute red card, forcing the visitors to play down a player for nearly the entire match.
Forward Jordyn Huitema found the game winning goal less than five minutes into the second half. Her 49th minute shot was low and hard, bypassing the goalkeeper to ultimately earn three points for the Reign.
2. SCOUTING ORLANDO – The Pride are currently in third place in the NWSL standings and are undefeated through nine matches in 2024. The Pride enter this match on a six-game win streak, earning four clean sheets in that span.
Orlando most recently took on expansion side Bay FC and picked up a 1-0 win. Pride forward Adriana scored a penalty kick in the 32nd minute of the match, after forward Barbra Banda drew the foul inside the box.
The Pride has six players out with injury ahead of tonight’s match – Angelina (knee), Celia (hip), Simone Charley (SEI - leg), Luana (SEI - illness), Megan Montefusco (SEI - heel) and Viviana Villacorta (SEI - knee), and one player questionable ahead of the match – Mariana Larroquette (lower leg).
“I think we are feeling opportunistic. I think that at this point, we're going to be the underdog going into any game that we're playing right now and I think that, in a lot of ways, that's an exciting position to be in. We have to get results, that's obvious, and I think that we're in a good head space heading into this one,” said Seattle Reign FC defender Phoebe McClernon.
3. LOOKING FORWARD – Though the Reign have not had an ideal start to the season, the team continues to look forward and build on the performances they’ve put together this season,
“I think something that's been frustrating in all the games that we've dropped this year is that we've walked away not feeling like we didn't do anything at all - specifically in Portland, I think that first half was one of our better halves of soccer that we've played this year, so there's a lot of positives to draw from that,” said McClernon.
“I think our conversion rate in scoring is something that we're looking to improve upon, obviously. I think that we had really quality chances in Portland and just turning those quality chances into actual goals is something that we're definitely striving to make happen here. So, I think we're, again, optimistic that we can do that.”
Also thrilled to be back at Lumen, the team will lean into the support of the home crowd to find success.
“Excited to be back at home. Obviously, a tough team ahead. They've had a fantastic start to the season. They deserve all the credit that they've been given. Excited to pitch ourselves against them and see how we do. So, I think, yeah, really excited to be back at home,” said Reign FC head coach Laura Harvey.
