Five Reasons to Attend Seattle Reign FC’s 2025 Home Opener

Seattle Reign FC returns to Lumen Field in two days to take on NJ/NY Gotham FC in a must-see matchup to open the 2025 season (7:00 p.m. PT / ION / TICKETS). Here are five reasons to attend the match:

1. New Veterans

Ahead of the 2025 season, the Reign bolster the roster by bringing seven new players. The new additions include three standouts with NWSL experience – NWSL all-time leading scorer Lynn Biyendolo, promising second-year defender Madison Curry and an experienced goalkeeper in Cassie Miller. All three players are expected to elevate the squad and add depth to Reign in varying areas of the field.

2. Rookie Additions

In addition to experienced players, the Reign added four exciting rookies to the roster for 2025. Comprised of forward Maddie Dahlien, defender Emily Mason, goalkeeper Maddie Prohaska and midfielder Sofia Cedeno, who was loaned to Brooklyn FC of the USL Super League, the diverse first-year corps is sure to supply plenty of energy and enthusiasm on the pitch.

3. Originals return for another season

At the core of Reign FC’s 2025 roster are the Reign Originals, defender Lauren Barnes and midfielder Jess Fishlock, both of whom are returning for another season. 2025 marks the 13th season that Barnes and midfielder Fishlock are set to the lead the Reign. The duo are only active NWSL players to play every NWSL season with the same club since the league’s inception in 2013.

4. Familiar Foe

On top of opening the season in front of a crowd of home fans, the Reign open the season against a very familiar opponent in NJ/NY Gotham FC. Gotham and Reign FC have a long and tense history, dating all the way back to 2013. Across all competitions, the Reign lead the head-to-head series with 12 wins, 10 losses and eight draws. Expect plenty of thrilling attacking soccer on Saturday, as five of the last 10 meetings between the two sides have featured three or more combined goals.

5. Back at Lumen Field

The can’t-miss match up features a lineup of exciting matchday activities around Lumen Field. Arrive early for a gate giveaway of a 2025 schedule magnet, presented by Gatorade. Fans also have the opportunity to enjoy face painting, hair spray artists, poster-making and fun photo ops.
