Megan Rapinoe Named NWSL Player of the Month for August

The National Women’s Soccer League announced today that OL Reign forward Megan Rapinoe has been named the NWSL Player of the Month for the month of August by the NWSL Media Association.

The National Women's Soccer League Player of the Month is a monthly soccer award given to individual players in the National Women's Soccer League. The honor is awarded to the player deemed to have put in the best performances over the past month by a panel of journalists who regularly cover the league.

Rapinoe played in all four of OL Reign’s NWSL matches in August, helping the team to a 2-1-1 record through the month. The Reign original played a total of 330 minutes across four games and notched four goals, including a stoppage time game winner against the Orlando Pride on August 26th.

In addition to her four goals, Rapinoe added three assists. An integral part of OL Reign’s attack, she took 18 shots (ex. Blocks), seven of which were on target. The 37-year-old created 15 chances for the Reign, won 37 duels and took 304 touches.

This is Rapinoe’s fourth time winning the award after taking home the honor in March 2018 and July 2017 and August 2021. She is now tied for the most Player of the Month honors in the NWSL, with former Reign teammate, Kim Little.

OL Reign play their next match of the regular season this Friday, September 9, at Lumen Field against the Chicago Red Stars. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. PT.
