Key Points Ahead of the Match:
1. LAST MEETING – OL Reign and the Orlando Pride last met in September 2021. OL Reign dominated the match and earned a 3-0 win. Forward Bethany Balcer opened the scoring in just the third minute of the match, setting the tone early on. French forward Eugénie Le Sommer followed Balcer’s goal up with a first half brace and the team worked to see the solid win through to the end of the match.
2. SCOUTING ORLANDO – Currently, the Pride are in 8th place in the NWSL standings with 21 points and are currently on a seven-game unbeaten streak. Orlando most recently took on Gotham FC and earned a 2-1 win. Celia and Ally Watt notched the Pride’s two second half goals to secure the victory.
3. FIRST MEETING THIS SEASON – OL Reign has not played Orlando at all this year, so neither team will know what exactly to expect. The Reign is typically an unpredictable side and Orlando has changed a lot throughout the season.
“I think Seb's done a great job. I think he's made them organized. I think he's made them hard to beat, first and foremost, probably the British in him and then I think their players have brought into that and they're showing their quality, like their true quality. That's my opinion on their change around is that they've become harder to play against, harder to break down and I feel like their players are playing with confidence shown their true ability,” said OL Reign head coach Laura Harvey.
4. LAST STRETCH – After a long road trip, OL Reign are in the final stretch. After securing two comeback wins in The Women’s Cup, Orlando is the last obstacle of this road trip.
" Yeah, we said when we got to Louisville that we had three objectives of the road trip: one was to utilize the squad to get everyone minutes in The Women's Cup. The second one was to try and win The Women's Cup and the third one was to prepare as best as we could for the Orlando game to try and do our best that we could to get a result. So, we're obviously on the last stretch of that and I think this week has been good. It's been useful. I think staying on the East Coast and being able to train [in Orlando] has been super hard, but I think it's been, probably, the best preparation we could've had going into the game,” said Harvey.
