Jess Fishlock Named NWSL Player of the Week

The National Women’s Soccer League announced today that it has named OL Reign midfielder Jess Fishlock as the league’s Budweiser Player of the Week for her outstanding performance in OL Reign’s match against North Carolina. Fishlock tallied one goal and one assist in the 2-0 win over the Courage.

Fishlock opened the scoring in the 52nd minute of the match when forward Bethany Balcer played a perfect through ball in the box to Fishlock on the run, who then only needed a simple touch around Courage goalkeeper Katelyn Rowland and a right-footed tap for the goal.

In the 74th minute, Fishlock assisted Balcer with a simple pass in the box to her feet, allowing Balcer to one touch the ball into the back of the net to double the Reign’s lead.

The last time the veteran had a goal and an assist in the same match was against the Houston Dash on August 7, 2021 and is just one of 17 players this season to notch a goal and an assist in the same match.

Fishlock has appeared and started in nine games this season for a total of 748 minutes, tallying two goals and one assist. Additionally, she has contributed 15 total shots (seven on target), 20 key passes, and 302 total passes in the 2022 regular season.

The 35-year-old has 36 goals and 23 assists all-time in her NWSL regular season history.

Fishlock is the second OL Reign player to receive this honor in 2022, joining defender Sofia Huerta. This is her sixth time receiving this award, the fourth most of any NWSL player.
