10 Reasons Laura Harvey is our Coach of the Year

OL Reign head coach Laura Harvey has been nominated for NWSL Coach of the Year as part of the NWSL end of season awards. Voting is open to fans through Tuesday HERE.

Harvey, who returned to OL Reign last season, is no stranger to winning the Coach of the Year award. She has won the award the most times of any coach in the NWSL, with her most recent win being last season.

Although there are many more, here are ten reasons Harvey is our NWSL Coach of the Year :

1. She led the Reign to its third NWSL Shield all-time, with all three being won under her (2014, 2015, 2022). Harvey became only the second coach in NWSL history to win three NWSL Shields.

2. This season, she set the record as the all-time winningest head coach in the NWSL after defeating Gotham FC at home, 4-1. Harvey’s current record in the regular season is 87-56-47 (W-L-D).

3. Throughout the 2022 season, Harvey had nine different players called up for international duty (US-4, CAN-2, BRA-1, MEX-1, WAL-1) and had to make significant rotations in games and adjust training plans and continued to find success using the depth of her squad.

4. Despite dealing with injuries on the roster and players being called up for international duty, Harvey listed 21 different starting XIs in 22 games played in the regular season and was able to lead the club to its third NWSL Shield.

5. She finished the season on a seven-game unbeaten streak, which included four games on the road – three being on the East Coast.

6. During the busy NWSL regular season, Harvey helped lead the team to win The Women’s Cup. The Reign played a total of four games in 12 days, winning all four matches (two NWSL regular season and two TWC games).

7. Harvey was the only coach in the NWSL to have at least 11 regular season wins and 40 total points earned.

8. Harvey was able to acquire several new players with veteran experience during the season including Tobin Heath, Jordyn Huitema, Kim Little.

9. Harvey’s OL Reign was the only team to not give up a goal in the final 15 minutes of play through all 22 games this season.

10. She led OL Reign to one of the best home records on the season, tallying just one loss at home during the regular season.
