OL Reign Announces 2021 Challenge Cup Schedule
OL Reign has announced its full schedule for the 2021 NWSL Challenge Cup presented by Secret Deodorant.
The 2021 Challenge Cup will see the league’s 10 teams organized into two divisions, East and West. OL Reign will feature in the West division, which includes the Houston Dash, Kansas City, Portland Thorns FC, and Chicago Red Stars. Each team will play four matches in home markets, followed by the top team from each division competing in the final slated for May 8, 2021.
OL Reign will kick off its tournament at 7:00 p.m. PT on April 16, 2021 at home against 2020 Challenge Cup champions Houston Dash. The club will then travel to Portland to face Cascadia rivals Thorns FC in its second match of the series on Wednesday, April 21 at 7:00 p.m. PT. The third match of the tournament will take place at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma, Wash. at 7:00 p.m. PT on Tuesday, April 27 against 2020 Challenge Cup finalists Chicago Red Stars. The last divisional match for OL Reign will take place on Sunday, May 2 at 1:30 p.m. PT on the road against Kansas City.
OL Reign’s match against Portland on April 27 will air on CBS Sports Network in the U.S., while its other games will stream exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S. All OL Reign games will be available internationally on Twitch, including in Canada, except for the match against Portland, which will be available on the CBS Sports Network in Canada.
“We are very excited to return to the pitch and are ready for this challenge,” said OL Reign head coach Farid Benstiti. “It will be a very difficult tournament, as our division has some incredible teams. I know the history of our games with Portland which are always special, and we have great respect for our other opponents in the division—especially the champions and finalist from last year’s Challenge Cup. It will be a good test for our squad and we will continue working hard to be at our best for the tournament.”
