Defender Machaela George Waived by OL Reign

OL Reign today announced that the club has waived defender Machaela George.

George was first signed by OL Reign as a National Team Replacement Player prior to the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup, earning a spot after participating in the club’s 2020 NWSL preseason camp as a non-roster invitee. In August 2020, George was added to OL Reign’s supplemental roster prior to being loaned to Fortuna Hjørring through December 2020.

George returned to OL Reign prior to the start of the 2021 NWSL preseason. George did not feature for OL Reign during the 2021 Challenge Cup, but has played nine minutes across two matches during the 2021 NWSL Regular Season.

“Despite the limited minutes she has played this season, Machaela was an important part of our squad and will be missed,” said OL Reign CEO Bill Predmore. “NWSL Roster rules required us to reduce our squad to 28 prior to the roster freeze deadline on September 30, which left us with a difficult decision to make. We are appreciative of Machaela’s efforts on behalf of the club and wish her all the best.”
