NWSL Announces 2021 Allocated Player List

The National Women’s Soccer League has announced the list of allocated players from the United States and Canada for the upcoming 2021 NWSL season.

Allocated players are players who will have some or all of their salaries paid by the U.S. Soccer Federation or Canada Soccer, respectively. A total of 32 players will be participating as allocated players in 2021: 22 from U.S. Soccer and 10 from Canada Soccer.

OL Reign will feature a minimum of two allocated players: Megan Rapinoe from the U.S. Soccer Federation, and Quinn from Canada Soccer. Quinn’s status as an allocated player means that they will not require the club to utilize an international slot this season.

OL Reign now has four open international slots available for use during 2021 season.

“We are appreciative of the support from Canada Soccer and the U.S. Soccer Federation again this season,” said OL Reign CEO Bill Predmore. “Their decision provides us with expected (but necessary) roster and cap flexibility that is crucial for us to realize our plans for the construction of our squad for the upcoming season.”

SheBelieves Cup MVP Rose Lavelle is also included in the list of allocated players for 2021. OL Reign acquired the rights to Lavelle in an August 2020 trade with the Washington Spirit. Should Lavelle choose to join OL Reign at some point in 2021, she may do so as an Allocated player.

Allie Long, who was previously designated as an Allocated player for OL Reign during the 2018, 2019 and 2020 seasons, was not allocated by the U.S Soccer Federation for the 2021 season.

Long recently signed a one-year agreement with OL Reign, which was announced on February 18, 2021.
