Megan Rapinoe Called in for USWNT January Camp
U.S. Women’s National Team head coach Vlatko Andonovski has called in OL Reign forward Megan Rapinoe for the federation’s January camp, U.S. Soccer announced today. The camp will run from January 9 to January 29 as the U.S. WNT gears up for the 2021 Olympic Games in Japan set to begin in July.
Rapinoe, 35, helped the U.S. win Olympic gold in London in 2012, as well as two FIFA Women’s World Cups. The forward was recently named to the 2020 FIFPro World XI, honoring the best women’s soccer players in the world. Rapinoe has scored 52 goals and recorded 68 assists for the U.S. in 168 caps, dating back to her senior national team debut in 2006.
The United States punched its ticket to the tournament after a 4-0 victory over Mexico in the CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying Championship last February. In the tournament final against Canada and OL Reign teammate Quinn—who also qualified for the tournament in Japan—Rapinoe scored the final goal in a 3-0 victory as the U.S. won its fifth consecutive Olympic Qualifying tournament championship.
