Sofia Huerta and Amber Brooks Acquired in Trade with Dash
Reign FC have acquired the rights to forward Sofia Huerta and defender Amber Brooks from the Houston Dash, the club announced today. In exchange, Houston will receive forward Shea Groom, defender Megan Oyster, and a conditional second round pick in the 2022 NWSL college draft.
Huerta, 27, led Houston offensively last year with five goals and four assists in 2,079 minutes on the pitch. The forward, who began her national team career with Mexico, filed a one-time switch to be eligible for the U.S. Women’s National Team in 2017, for whom she has seven caps. Huerta is currently playing with Sydney FC for the 2019-20 Australian W-League season.
Brooks, 29, returns to Reign FC after being traded to Houston at the conclusion of the 2015 season. Brooks played one season in Seattle, where she made 12 appearances and scored one goal. In 2019—Brooks’ fourth season for Houston—the centerback played every minute of all 24 NWSL regular-season matches, one of just four players in the league to do so. Brooks is currently playing for W-League side Adelaide United, where she has started and played in all 10 of the club’s matches.
Shea Groom joined Reign FC ahead of the 2019 season after being acquired from Sky Blue FC. The forward made 16 appearances for Reign FC, scoring goals against the Utah Royals on August 11 and notching the game-winning goal against North Carolina on May 28.
Megan Oyster came to Reign FC from the Boston Breakers in the 2018 NWSL Dispersal Draft. The centerback made 41 appearances in two seasons at Reign FC, all of them starts. The centerback won 64.7 percent of her tackles and made 36 interceptions for the club in 2019.
