Megan Rapinoe Named to USWNT Training Camp Roster

Reign FC Forward Megan Rapinoe has been named to the U.S. Women’s National Team’s 26-player roster for training camp ahead of the 2020 SheBelieves Cup, U.S. Soccer announced today. Rapinoe recently featured for the United States in its successful Olympic qualifying campaign.

The 34-year old has 165 caps and 51 goals for the United States. Rapinoe won the 2019 Ballon D’Or and was named the Best FIFA Women’s Player of the year following a record-setting World Cup campaign that saw her win the Golden Boot and Golden Ball as the tournament’s best player.

The fifth annual SheBelieves Cup will allow the U.S. to test itself against some of the best national teams in the world ahead of the 2020 Olympic Games in Japan. The round-robin tournament will see the top-ranked U.S. face No. 6 England, No. 10 Japan and No. 13 Spain and will run from March 5-11 at sites around the United States.

U.S. Women’s National Team coach Vlatko Andonovski will name a final 23-player roster prior to first match of the tournament.

“As a team, we have lots of positive feelings coming out of Olympic Qualifying, but I think we all know that there’s still a lot of room for growth for this group and there’s no better way to continue that process than to play teams like England, Spain and Japan,” Andonovski said in a statement released by the federation. “Our end goal is the Olympics, but we’re looking forward to a productive camp in Orlando and the challenge of playing three fantastic sides over the seven days. The rhythm of the SheBelieves Cup schedule directly matches what we will face in group play at the Olympics, and the value of getting a test run against this level of competition cannot be overstated.”
