Playoff Picture Beginning to Take Shape
Entering the final five matches of the regular season, the requirements for Reign FC to make the postseason are beginning to take shape. Currently sitting in fifth place on the league table, the club controls its own postseason destiny.
Reign FC begins its final push to the postseason with a road match against fifth-place Washington on Saturday, September 14 at 4:30 p.m. PT. Following that, the club will return home for a critical clash against Utah Royals FC on Wednesday, September 18 at 7:00 p.m. PT.
According to FiveThirtyEight, Reign FC and Utah have a roughly 50 percent chance to secure the a playoff berth, regardless of which seed they secure. Still, should Reign FC win all five remaining fixtures it can guarantee itself at least a second-place finish (ending on 45 points) and the right to host a semifinal match, regardless of other results around the league.
Apart from Utah, Reign FC’s only remaining match against a team currently in playoff position will be its final home match of the season against rivals Portland Thorns FC on Sunday, September 29 at 11:00 a.m. PT.
The club can finish with a maximum of 45 points and could still hoist the NWSL Shield, contingent on results for the North Carolina Courage. Wins against Utah and Portland would provide critical points in the playoff battle and would greatly increase Reign FC’s chances of a playoff spot.
Tickets for Reign FC’s home match against Utah are available online, or by calling the Reign FC ticket office at (855)-REIGN-FC.
