Reign FC Acquire Keeper Sammy Jo Prudhomme in Trade
Reign FC announced today that it has acquired goalkeeper Sammy Jo Prudhomme from the Washington Spirit in exchange for midfielder Elise Kellond-Knight.
“Given the injuries to Michelle and Lydia we needed to add a quality keeper to our roster,” Reign FC head coach Vlatko Andonovski said. “We think Sammy Jo will be a great fit for our needs – we’re excited to have her on the squad.”
Prudhomme began her college career at Oregon State, before transferring to USC in 2014. As a senior, Prudhomme was named the Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Year and the Pac-12 First Team as the Trojans won the NCAA Championship.
Prudhomme is in her third season in the NWSL. The keeper joined the Boston Breakers in 2017 after being drafted with the 31st overall pick. Prudhomme was then selected by the Houston Dash with the 24th overall pick in the 2018 NWSL Dispersal Draft. Prudhomme was waived by the Dash prior to the start of the 2019 season and was subsequently signed by the Washington Spirit.
“I’m very excited to be joining a great organization and team in Reign FC,” Prudhomme said. “I greatly appreciate everything the Washington Spirit did for me while I was there but I am looking forward to getting to Tacoma and making the most of this new opportunity.”
Kellond-Knight was signed by Reign FC prior to the 2019 season. She made three substitute appearances for Reign FC, playing a total of 103 minutes.
Reign FC returns home for its World Cup Homecoming Match on Sunday, July 28 against the Chicago Red Stars at 1:00 p.m. PT.
