Late Fishlock Goal Spurs Reign FC to First Road Win
Reign FC won its first match on the road on Sunday, stretching its unbeaten streak to six matches. Jess Fishlock scored her second goal in as many games, powering in a ball as Reign FC avenged it’s only loss of the season in a 1-0 win at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois.
Fishlock scored in the 80th minute, after forward Ifeoma Onumonu bullied her way into the left alley and forced in a low cross. The Welsh midfielder turned out of pressure and fired past a charging Emily Boyd for the game-winner.
Reign FC nearly added another goal four minutes later. Substitute Addison Steiner ran on to a long ball and managed to dribble past Boyd, but got the underside of the ball as she sent her shot over the crossbar.
Reign FC outshot Chicago 15-9, including a 6-3 advantage in shots on target.
Keeper Casey Murphy recorded her first clean sheet with Reign FC. Murphy made three saves and cut out several key crosses in her first shutout.
Reign FC is back on the road on Friday, June 28, when it will play the Utah Royals for the first time this season at the Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah at 7:00 p.m. PT.
The club returns home on July 28 for a match against the Red Stars. Tickets are available here, or by calling the Reign FC ticket office at (855) REIGN-FC.
