Jodie Taylor and England Advance to World Cup Quarterfinals

Reign FC forward Jodie Taylor appeared as a substitute for England in a 3-0 win over Cameroon at the Women’s World Cup Round of 16 on Sunday. The Lionesses advanced to the quarterfinals with the win.

England scored first in the 15th minute from an indirect free kick after Cameroonian goalkeeper Annette Ngo Ndom picked up a deliberate back pass inside the penalty area. Toni Duggan restarted play by rolling the ball to Steph Houghton, who finished past a wall of Cameroonian defenders on the goal line to the far side net to make it 1-0.

The Lionesses scored again in first-half stoppage time. Ellen White slipped behind Cameroon’s back line and received a ball from Lucy Bronze before firing it home. The assistant referee had initially judged White to be offside, but referee Qin Liang overruled the decision after checking with the Video Assistant Referee.

Alex Greenwood made it 3-0 in the 58th minute, converting a low corner kick from Duggan with her first touch.

England will face Norway at Stade Océane in Le Havre on Thursday, June 27 at 12:00 p.m. PT.
